Illumination Materials
Tezhip and Miniature Supplies
Illumination draws on a wide vocabulary of motifs and patterns, and producing original work in it requires materials of sufficient quality and range. This collection covers both tezhip and the miniature painting tradition that sits alongside it.
Gold and gilding materials
Esefoğlu and the Karin brand entered the art materials trade through gold leaf, which at the time was difficult for Turkish artists to source reliably. More than sixteen years of experience in that trade is the reason Karin Sanat became the first place people look for gilding materials.
The collection carries genuine and imitation leaf, shell gold, shellac polishes and durable varnishes for finishing gilded work, rabbit-skin and animal glues, milk mixtion and three- and twelve-hour mixtion adhesives, gilder's knives and cushions, agate burnishers, roll gilding, bole and red bole ground, and the supporting materials gilding work calls for at every stage.
Illumination and miniature
For tezhip itself: gouache and metallic paints, kolinsky and sable brushes for tahrir and halkari, prepared papers, contour inks, compasses and ruling pens for laying out the geometric framework. The miniature painting section carries the traditional tools of that discipline, along with technical pens for a range of drawing techniques.
Restoration
Restoration has developed considerably in Turkey in recent years, and we supply the materials that artistic restoration work depends on.
