Mixtion (gold leaf adhesive) is the most critical material in illumination and gilding processes, enabling leaf or imitation leaf to adhere permanently to the surface. Choosing the right mixtion directly affects the smooth adhesion and longevity of the leaf.

Mixtions are classified according to their drying times: 3-hour mixtions are preferred for quick jobs, while 12-hour mixtions are preferred for more controlled and large-surface applications. While water-based mixtions are easy to clean and odorless, natural adhesives such as traditional milk mixtion are preferred especially in traditional arts like illumination.
