Imitation Gold and Silver Leaf

Leaf gold appears throughout the decorative arts, and in tezhip it is fundamental. But genuine gold is expensive, which is why imitation gold and silver leaf are produced in a range of finishes and thicknesses.

Alongside genuine leaf, we stock imitation gold and imitation silver. Applied well, imitation leaf gives very good results — and on large surfaces, or in practice and study work where the cost of genuine leaf would be prohibitive, it is often the sensible choice.

Imitation leaf is generally supplied in larger sheet sizes than genuine gold, which makes it more economical to work with across broad areas. It does require sealing with a protective varnish, since unlike genuine gold it will tarnish if left exposed.
