“Ta’liq script holds a different status within the art of calligraphy compared to other script styles. It exhibits distinct characteristics due to its unique training, the use of both the full nib and sub-divisions of the nib’s width in its anatomy, and the fact that it is written without diacritical marks. Because it occupies less space than other scripts relative to its nib thickness and possesses a delicate anatomical structure with very fine parts, it requires sharp vision and refined craftsmanship. Therefore, unlike other scripts, it features both “full nib” strokes and “half-nib” thicknesses, and as a result, some parts of the letters must almost be drawn. There is no other script as delicate as this, nor one that reveals errors so instantaneously. This book is enriched with beautiful Ta’liq letters and scripts produced by the pen of my esteemed calligrapher friend, Ms. Sevim Şirikçi. The ways in which the letters are formed have been explained and demonstrated clearly and explicitly, and the book compiles highly useful explanations for beginner calligraphers, especially for those who do not have the opportunity to study with a master. Furthermore, as it includes examples from our esteemed past and contemporary masters of Ta’liq script, I state that it is an album I would recommend with peace of mind to students of calligraphy studying Ta’liq, and I congratulate Ms. Sevim for this valuable work.”
