Detailed Information
The reason horsehair is used in the art of marbling (ebru) is that it does not retain the paint, allowing it to be transferred easily. Unlike other brushes, horsehair does not clump at the tip. This feature ensures that the paint taken with the brush can be sprinkled easily. As for the bamboo handle, it contributes to the sprinkling of the paint with its flexibility, and since it is a water-grown plant, it is the most durable material that resists the softening effect of water.
