Detailed Information
To paint ceramics, the bisque-fired product must first be cleared of dust and dirt. This can be done by wiping the surface with a damp cloth. When painting, a paint container and the chosen glaze are required. The paint is poured onto a palette and mixed. Its consistency should allow it to flow for a few minutes. Precise application is necessary here. If the glaze is too thick, it may cause the glaze to chip off during firing. Start glazing from the inside of the object. The glaze will be absorbed quickly in the first coat. However, care must be taken to avoid brush marks. As the product dries, the color will lighten, taking on a more pastel tone. Afterward, it can be applied to the exterior. Smaller brushes can be used for the base. Once the first coat has dried completely and half an hour has passed, a second coat can be applied, and a third coat if desired. The feet should also be wiped with a damp sponge. Finally, leave it to dry. Smooth surfaces should be degreased using soapy water and alcohol. This product is especially suitable for painting porcelain, tiles, and ceramics; however, you can also achieve completely interesting effects on other heat-resistant materials up to 150°C, such as metal, glass, etc. If you want the acrylic-based ceramic paint to be permanent after use, it is recommended to use a fixative spray after painting. It is ideal for stencil and brush techniques. If a mistake is made during application, use a cotton cloth dipped in Ceramic/Vitrail thinner if the paint is fresh. If the paint has dried, scrape it off gently with a razor blade. In addition to ceramic paints used with brushes, there are also versions available in tube bottles with pen tips that can be applied to fabric, as well as powder models that can be dissolved in water and applied. Brushes used in ceramic painting are generally at least 1–3 cm in size. If the paint becomes thick, it can be thinned with the help of a medium. If fine, detailed work is to be done, detail brushes used in watercolor painting may be preferred. The most common types of brushes used in painting are synthetic and silk brushes.
