Thanks to their formula and careful manufacturing, Schmincke's 400 extra-fine pastels are as delicate as velvet and silk, with an especially soft and intense color application. They contain the highest concentration of the finest artist pigments with a minimum binder content. Maximum lightfastness ensures durability, and the unique color mixes as well as special colors allow for unlimited artistic possibilities. The pastels are made from the finest artist pigments without chalk. The binder content is so low that the medium-finely rubbed pigments only just achieve a stable bond. There are 5 shades for each of the 75 colors: Pure color (D), black mix (B), and 3 white mixes (H, M, O). They can be easily used on special pastel papers, mixed media papers, and special canvases.
