Pairs beautifully with HORADAM® watercolors for a wide range of combination possibilities. It offers excellent covering properties, and its exceptionally high pigment concentration guarantees brilliant, deep color in every shade. HORADAM® GOUACHE can be used straight from the tube or diluted with water, and it mixes and blends seamlessly with the entire Schmincke gouache range. Colors dry to a matte finish and take on a slightly lighter tone as they set. The standard range is also available in 15 ml tubes, with Titanium White also offered in a 60 ml tube.

HORADAM® GOUACHE Application
The application possibilities of HORADAM® GOUACHE are extremely versatile. While it can be diluted heavily, gouache is primarily designed for opaque color application. "Opaque" here doesn't mean impasto — impasto techniques tend to cause cracking unless the binder ratio is increased by adding gum arabic. While watercolor painting typically progresses from light to dark (white paper being the lightest value), gouache painting allows for any working order. In watercolor, "reserving" highlights is limited, but with gouache (and other opaque colors) you can add light values and highlights later, right on top of existing layers. Students quickly notice that gouache colors dry brighter than they appear when wet, helping them find the right mixing ratio with practice.
