Usage: Ideal for the final protection of oil paintings and as a temporary varnish for unfinished oil paintings; it softens matte areas frequently seen in oil paintings (less matte on the skin). Shake well before use. The product is ready to use as a final varnish, but for use as a retouching varnish, e.g., with turpentine substitute 50019, please dilute with 20% turpentine substitute 50019! Final varnishes can only be applied to the oil paint layer at room temperature using a suitable varnish brush, i.e., after it has completely dried, which is at the earliest after 8-12 months; when used as a retouching varnish, the surface of the painting must be dry (at the earliest after 4 weeks). Please clean tools as soon as possible with, e.g., turpentine substitute 50019 or brush cleaner 50051/50052. The dried varnish layer remains soluble in turpentine substitute 50019 for a long period of time. If used as a retouching varnish, it is possible to paint over the dried varnish layer with oil paints or to add a final varnish based on mineral spirits. Products based on mineral spirits cannot be mixed with alcohol-based products such as alcohol retouching varnish 50020. Varnish layers normally used in practice do not provide specific UV protection for the paints used. Therefore, we recommend using high-quality and lightfast oil paints from the very beginning.
