Sennelier oil pastel is a product that utilizes the same components used in all Sennelier colors: top-quality pigments, an extremely pure synthetic binding medium, and mineral wax. The pigments are ground with a binding medium that is inert, non-oxidizing, and does not have any effect on film stability or the surface, nor does it have siccative properties. This base is then mixed with wax (neutral pH). The balance of this mixture provides Sennelier oil pastels with a creamy texture that offers great freedom of pictorial expression.

Sennelier oil pastels have an exceptionally high pigment content, which gives them high coloring and covering potential, excellent brightness, and a high degree of lightfastness (with the exception of metallic and fluorescent shades).
